Watford Palace Theatre Community Choir
A fun and friendly weekly choir open to all adults and all abilities.
Watford Palace Theatre runs a weekly community choir, which is open to all, with no audition or experience required. The group focuses on enjoyment of singing, aiming to learn and improve along the way. The choir meets every Wednesday evening from 7.30-9.30pm during school term time. We are currently running our sessions via Zoom, and are happy to accept new members. You are welcome to try out a session for free at the start of term - just drop an email to the Take Part team to let us know you are coming along.
This is a recent comment from a choir member:
" If anyone had said I would stand on a stage and sing with a choir I would never have believed them. Thank you all for the confidence and support you have given me...."
The choir performs regularly on the Palace Theatre stage, as well as participating in concerts and tours around the Watford community and beyond, singing a varied repertoire including traditional choral works, show tunes and classic pop songs – everything from Fauré and Verdi to Bob Dylan and Abba - led by our musical director David Halstead. Each year, we also give a concert of Christmas Carols and festive favourites to a packed-out theatre, as well as another concert in the Summer.
Sheet music is provided for those who can read it or who would like to learn, but there is absolutely no pressure to use sheet music, the choir want all our singers to feel comfortable. The choir will be learning lots of new songs after the Christmas break and we hope you will join us for a good sing, a cup of tea and sometimes some homemade cake!
To join, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01923 810307 to arrange your free trial session. After that, your first term will cost just £65.00 for the remaining 10 sessions (11 in total). You can pay either at box office or bring your money to your second session and we'll do the rest. The regular terms fees are £71.50.
In July 2018 our choir sang at two charity concerts in Wales - you can read all about it in My Watford News: https://www.mynewsmag.co.uk/successful-welsh-tour-marks-turning-point-for-watford-choir/
Access and Inclusion
After our refurbishment our building is now fully accessible, with a lift up to the second floor where choir rehearsals usually take place and an accessible toilet by the studio. We run an inclusive and supportive room. We are able to adapt session content, delivery style and exercises to insure that participants with access needs can participate fully. If you have a physical disability, learning disability or are a mental health service user and you have any queries, or wish to assess the building facilities beforehand, please don't hesitate to get in touch and we can arrange an informal chat.
