The Good Soul of Szechuan
Watford Palace Theatre in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council Children's Services presents Bertolt Brecht's play The Good Soul of Szechuan.
Three Gods arrive in Szechuan province in search of good souls, but only the prostitute Shen Te will offer them shelter. Rewarded with enough money to buy a tobacco shop, her kindness is preyed upon by everyone around her and before long she’ll lose everything.
It’s time for the good-hearted Shen Te to invent a super bad alter-ego. Enter Shui Ta, kick-ass cousin and ruthless businessman. But how long can she keep up this double life? And is Shui Ta in danger of turning this good soul bad?
Brought to life by four actor-musicians and directed by James Williams (The Trial, Hello Mister Capello, Gulliver’s Travels), this edited and dynamic production of Brecht’s classic parable play will tour schools across Hertfordshire from 6 Feb–2 Mar.
The Good Soul of Szechuan will also play at: Trestle Arts Base, St Albans on Wed 22 Feb 2.30pm & 7.30pm, contact 01727 850950 for more information.
