The Crowstarver

One moonlit night on Outoverdown Farm, just before the outbreak of the Second World War, a baby is discovered with a note pinned to its shawl – ‘Please save this lamb’.

As John Joseph grows up, the mystery of his birth is not the only thing that marks him out as special. He has an amazing way with animals of all kinds – dogs, foxes, hares, horses. And when John Joseph gets a job as a crowstarver, he even loves the crows he must scare away from the newly sown corn. But life can be tough and danger is only ever a whisker away…

Packed with action, wonderful puppetry and beautiful live music, this thrilling and heartwarming production will delight and move audiences of all ages. Dick King-Smith is the writer of over a hundred titles including ‘The Sheep Pig’ on which the movie ‘Babe’ was based.

The Crowstarver is presented by Theatre Alibi with Exeter Northcott Theatre and Oxford Playhouse.
