Our Brother David

It is the summer of 2010. Despite the rapid erosion of Fairwold’s coastline and a global recession threatening local businesses, ex celebrity photographer David Tiller and his sister Sophie are managing to run their old family home as a guest house. But their peaceful existence is threatened when their one-time brother in law Lawrence and his stunning new girlfriend decide to spend a weekend by the sea...

Our Brother David is a poignant tale of misplaced love, and a lively story of people trying to do the right thing in a crisis. Rich in humour, this beautiful new play, inspired by Chekhov’s masterpiece Uncle Vanya, could make you think differently about the future.

This world premiere production is written and directed by Anthony Clark, former Artistic Director of Hampstead Theatre, whose plays have been performed at the National Theatre and The Orange Tree, and whose directing credits include the RSC , Birmingham Rep and West End. The play is designed by Ruari Murchison, whose previous productions for the Palace include Family Business, Time Of My Life and Mrs Reynolds and the Ruffian. Our Brother David is a Watford Palace Theatre production.

Alison De Burgh

Alison was Britain’s first ever female Fight Director. An ex National Long-Bow Champion, she is currently Coach to the Royal Company of Archers (the Queen’s Honorary Bodyguard in Scotland). Alison owns a narrow boat and spends her free time cruising the waterways of Britain.

Ed studied engineering at Warwick University before beginning his career at a film production company in Birmingham

Sound Design includes: Tactical Questioning, A Walk in the Woods and Broken Glass (with West End transfer) for the Tricycle; Blind Date/ 27 Wagons Full of Cotton double bill at Riverside Studios; Last 5 Years and Tick Tick Boom for Notes from New York at the Duchess Theatre, London; A Real Human Person Who Cares And All That (Arcola) and Beyond the Pale (Southwark Playhouse), both directed by Jamie Harper; and the professional premiere and UK tour of Philip Ridley’s Moonfleece for Supporting Wall.

Other work includes: the US Tour of the Tricycle's The Great Game: Afghanistan; Histories cycle and London and Newcastle seasons for the RSC; Regent’s Park Open Air; English Touring Theatre’s FarfFrom the Maddening Crowd; Tamasha’s musical version of Wuthering Heights; and Sound for video pieces produced by Dusthouse.

Ed tours Comedy shows for acts including Chris Addison and Dave Gorman and also provides freelance technical support for the BBC.

Beryl King - Althea

Beryl was born in Essex and studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama and York University. After her early rep career, she worked as script writer and broadcaster for BBC and Scandinavian educational radio services and lectured in drama at Middlesex Polytechnic/University. Returning to the theatre her work has included: Miss Prism in The Importance of Being Earnest (Bristol Old Vic), Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit (Pitlochry), Dotty Otley in Noises Off (Christchurch, New Zealand), Mrs Malaprop in The Rivals (Cheltenham), Liz in Happy Jack (Bolton), and Anne-Marie in Dolls House (Library Theatre Manchester). On tour: Flora Tompson in Flora, Doris in My Mother Said I Never Should, Aunt Juley in The Forsyte Saga, Ada Doom in Cold Comfort Farm. Recently in London, Joyce in Double Effect (Finborough), Honey in Timeless (New End), Jean in November (Union Theatre), Ester in Chopping Onions (Theatre 503) and Sylvia in Other People’s Garden’s (Arcola). TV includes Tycoon, Geeves and Wooster, Grange Hill, Inspector Morse, The Bill and Casualty.
